A good way to promote fitness in your community is to sponsor a sports team. You may sponsor you own team or search for existing teams that need financial support. Below are some things to consider about team sponsorship.

• Pick a Sport- Baseball and Softball are common choices. Take your community and regional interests into consideration. Hockey is very popular in cold climates, while football is big in the south.
• Adults or Kids- Decide weather you want to sponsor an adult or youth team. Consider the needs of your community. Are there a variety of school teams, but few options for adults? Women sports teams are still often placed behind men’s in importance. Is there a sport that currently lacks a female team? Ask people connected with the sports community where your sponsorship is most needed.
• Be Prepared to Give- After all, the purpose of sponsoring a team is to provide them with the money they need to buy uniforms, equipment, supplies, and pay for training. Make sure your organization is in financial position to be a team sponsor. There is nothing worse for a coach then having to tell his team they’ve lost their sponsorship due to budget constraints.
• Enjoy the Perks- Yes, there are perks to sponsor ship besides the warm, fuzzy feeling of generosity. The primary benefit is free advertising. A sponsor’s name and logo is commonly displayed on team uniforms, outfields, goalposts, and a variety of other places. Also, some sports venues may offer special discounts to sponsors, such as discounted admission or reserved seating.
