Outreach Ministries: First Aid ClassesNothing is more important than knowing what to do in an emergency. Everyone should have a basic knowledge of first aid, but it is especially important for people working with machinery, children, seniors, and animals. Find someone knowledgeable: Ask a registered nurse or EMT (emergency medical technician) to host your class. Contact your local Red Cross chapter. They offer programs in CPR and First Aid that can be tailored to specific groups. Cover the basics: A basic First Aid course should cover the following
Customize it: In addition to the basics, tailor your course to the season. During the summer months, CPR and heat exhaustion are ideal topics. Winter brings hypothermia and frostbite. If you live in a place that receives frequent storms, address electrical shock. Is there a large amount of wildlife in your area? Then cover animal and snake bites. First Aid Kit-:Provide your attendees with a list of items to make a first aid kit. If you have the funds available, you can give them mini-kits as part of the seminar. A standard First Aid kit should include:
Teach Children to Call 911-First aid is great for parents and teens to learn, but young children need to know what to do in an emergency as well. Hold a special lecture for kids, invite a local fireman or police officer to come and talk to them. Teach them what an emergency is, how to call 911, and what information they need to give. Give the children crayons and paper and help them write out their home address and phone number. Make sure they understand that calling 911 is not a game or prank, and must only be used in a real emergency.
