Outreach Ministries: Entrepreneurial Workshop

Do you know anyone whose ever wanted to start his or her own business? Maybe you have been curious yourself. Small Business is important in keeping competition and representation at fair levels in the economic playing field. Hold a special workshop to inform and educate your community members on starting a business from scratch.

Invite local small business owners to come and speak. Ask them to share the joys and sorrows of becoming an entrepreneur. Chances are they will each have their own advice for success. There are however, some basic steps that must be taken. Discuss the following points in your workshop.

  • Research the Market- find out what product or service is not being provided in your area. Or, come up with a new or cheaper way to offer an existing product or service.
  • Study the Competition- What are their resources? What are their weaknesses? Will you be able to compete with them on a financial level?
  • Choose your Type- Will your business be a sole proprietorship or a partnership? How about a corporation? What are the strengths and weaknesses of each option?
  • Read Sample Business Plans- Look at business plans from similar companies. What are their strengths and weaknesses? What will you do the same? What will you do differently?
  • Getting Started- Where will I secure the needed funds? How will I choose employees? What is my chosen business location? What will I do in case of setbacks?

Other topics to cover:

Besides the general small business practices, you may include other speakers on the following subjects.

  • Obtaining a business loan
  • Applying for insurance
  • Legal requirements
