Outreach Ministries: Bi-Lingual Services

If you are located in an area with a high immigrant population, then multi-language out reach services might be worth consideration.

Offer Non-English Sunday Services

  • Find a bi-lingual church member who is interested in leading a weekly sermon. If they are not already properly trained, enroll them in a public speaking class.
  • Invest in hymnals, bibles, and other reading materials of your chosen language.
  • Decide if you want to hold services one after the other, or simultaneously.
  • If both services are at the same time, secure a location that is similar to your English speaking location in size and acoustics.
  • Instruct your printing company to print half of your church bulletins in your chosen language.
  • Make sure to plan your two services around each other, so that you avoid problems with parking and traffic.
  • Your non-English ministry doesn’t have to stop here. Consider adding Sunday school, youth programs, and a choir as well.

ESOL: English as A Second Language

Offer weekly tutoring sessions in English at no cost to the public.
  • Secure your instructor. You can use a volunteer, but choosing someone with a teaching background is recommended. The ideal candidate would be someone who is bilingual and training in education.
  • Offer Varying Levels of Instruction. You might have a class for beginners, intermediate, and advanced, or even specialized classes such as English for Job Seekers, or English for Students.
  • Hit area campus bookstores. Many times, they are forced to get rid of perfectly good textbooks because instructors are no longer using them. You may find some handy source material for free!
  • Look online for examples of learning plans, class activities, and other English programs to find additional teaching ideas.
